More than 1,100 flights were delayed or canceled Monday at Denver International Airport as wind gusts swept across the state.
As of around 5 p.m., an additional 145 flights had been delayed and eight more were canceled, bringing the total of delayed flights to 1,065 and canceled flights to 50 because of high winds on Monday. Airborne inbound airplanes were delayed for an average of one hour and 18 minutes. Departing flights were delayed an average one hour and four minutes, Between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, 162 flights were delayed and three were canceled because of high wind,Airlines that delayed or canceled flights include United, Southwest, CommuteAir, SkyWest, Frontier, JetBlue, Mesa, Delta, Air Canada, Key Lime Air, Allegiant Air, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Volaris, and American and Alaska Airlines, according to FlightAware.
Southwest had the largest number of total delays, with 392 flights delayed and seven canceled, as of 5 p.m. Monday, while United delayed 318 flights and canceled nine. Regional airline SkyWest had the most cancellations, with 19 flights canceled and 161 delayed by Monday evening.
Winds gusts are expected to reach up to 45 mph Monday at DIA, High winds will likely last through Tuesday night, with gusts up to 49 mph.
