A 37-year-old Centennial man was arrested after police say he caused a fatal crash near West Colfax Avenue and Garrison Street in Lakewood while driving drunk early Wednesday morning.

Ilya Slavin was arrested for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault while driving under the influence and other charges,

Slavin was driving a white GMC pickup truck east on West Colfax Avenue around 5:54 a.m. Wednesday when he crashed into a white Audi at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Garrison Street. Slavin’s truck rolled into a nearby shopping center and hit another car, Lakewood police said.

Police are still investigating whether the truck rolled over into the shopping center or rolled on its tires.

Beth Bargas, 65, of Lakewood was driving the Audi and died at the scene. A 47-year-old passenger in the Audi was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, police officials said Wednesday.

The intersection was for the crash investigation.

Slavin is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash bail and is set to appear in court Wednesday, according to court records.
