A Friday night shooting at a liquor store in Aurora on East Colfax Avenue left one man dead, police said.

Around 8:45 p.m. Friday, Aurora officers responded to reports of a shooting at a liquor store near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Helena Street, close to the Whispering Pines apartments, according to a news release from the police department.

Two men had been shopping at the liquor store before they got into an argument with two other men and a woman in the parking lot outside, according to a Saturday afternoon update from police.

“The argument escalated to a physical fight, followed by shots fired,” police officials said in the update.

When officers arrived, they found a 38-year-old man with gunshot wounds, police said. Investigators have not publicly identified the victim but said he died from his wounds shortly after arriving at a hospital.

An official cause and manner of death, as well as the man’s identity, will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

“There is no information at this time about any possible connections to the migrant community or gang activity,” police stated in the release. “The investigation is active and ongoing.”

Witnesses told investigators that the three suspects fled the scene in a silver sedan, police said. Police had not been able to identify any of the three and no arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the shooting or suspects is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

This is a developing story.
