A Maryland man was killed and four others were injured in a Thursday morning crash on U.S. 40 near Fraser, police said.

The crash happened around 9:25 a.m. Thursday, after a pickup truck traveling east lost traction on the icy highway, spun across the median and collided with a semitrailer traveling west, according to a news release from the Fraser and Winter Park Police Department.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck, a 37-year-old Aurora man, and three other passengers were hurt in the crash. As of Friday morning, one woman remained in critical condition in a Denver-area hospital.

A fifth pickup truck passenger, a 29-year-old man from Bethesda, Maryland died in the crash, police said in the release.

The Grand County Coroner’s Office will identify the man at a later date.

Investigators said the semitrailer driver, a 34-year-old male from Lochbuie, was not injured in the crash and the fuel tanker he was hauling was not heavily damaged.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, but police said charges could still be filed after the investigation wraps up.
