A Denver police officer was injured in a crash Wednesday night amid a protest at the Colorado State Capitol, where thousands showed up to demonstrate against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and Wednesday raids across metro Denver.

The officer, who was on a motorcycle, was hit by a car at West 13th Avenue and Elati Street, just east of Speer Boulevard, according to a 7:07 p.m. statement from the .

Police told Denver7 that the officer was working “” at the intersection.

The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the driver stayed on scene, police said. The crash was , police said.

West 13th Avenue was temporarily closed for the crash cleanup and investigation but reopened overnight.
