Metro Denver residents hitting the road to enjoy a spring weekend or celebrate Mother’s Day can expect significant delays on Interstate 70 because of ongoing repair work, state officials said.

Several sections of I-70 will have lane or shoulder closures as crews work to fix a section of stormwater pipe under the road, according to the

The closures include the left lane of eastbound I-70, the eastbound I-70 express lane and the left shoulder of westbound I-70 between Interstate 225 and Chambers Road in Aurora.

Repair work is scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Drivers should take alternate routes, CDOT officials said.
