Flight delays are piling up at Denver International Airport after federal officials ordered a ground delay because of thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon.
by an average of 46 minutes because of storms, the Federal Aviation Administration said in an alert. FAA officials issued the ground stop at 4 p.m. and set it to expire at 9 p.m.
Forecasters with the reported light rain and mist at the airport as of 4:30 p.m., along with reduced visibility and wind gusts up to 21 mph.
Showers could continue through the evening, the agency said.
Airlines reported 315 delayed flights as of 4:35 p.m., including 152 on Southwest, 95 on United and 38 on SkyWest, according to the flight tracking website .
