South Metro Fire Rescue responded to several vegetation fires along the High Line Canal on Monday afternoon that investigators are deeming suspicious, according to the agency.
One fire — which is under control as of 3 p.m. — was at 1181 S. Parker Road and involved a commercial building with several businesses, according to South Metro Fire Rescue public information officer Ryan Willie. The businesses were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The fire started along the canal and caught on some cottonwood trees, Willie said, and spread to the structure. Firefighters are mopping up the area.
Authorities closed South Parker Road in both directions near Mississippi Avenue while they work to put out the flames. The road will be closed as first responders still have equipment in the area as of 3 p.m.
Fire authorities are also fighting another blaze along the canal at 1850 S. Quebec Way, Willie said. No structures were involved at this time.
