A 60-year-old Aurora man was arrested on charges of first-degree murder Sunday after calling 911 to report that he had fatally shot his wife.
Phil Atchue told Aurora Police on Sunday night that he shot his common-law wife in their apartment in the 900 block of South Ivory Circle, according to an Aurora Police news release.
Aurora Police responded and found Atchue at a nearby bus stop. Officers learned the shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. Saturday — about 38 hours before Atchue called 911, police said.
Police went to the apartment and found a 61-year-old woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound and a gun. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Formal charges for Atchue will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the news release said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
