A 38-year-old woman shot in the head during a road-rage crash on U.S. 285 in Jefferson County remained in critical condition Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.

A suspect in the shooting, 56-year-old Matthew Impellitteri, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of two counts of attempted first-degree murder after deliberation and two counts of attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Impellitteri appeared in court Friday morning and remains in custody on a $1 million cash bail.

The sheriff’s office has accused Impellitteri of shooting the woman in the head during a road-rage crash about 9 miles southwest of Morrison.

Deputies arrested Impellitteri Thursday at his home in the 8400 block of South U.S. 285, near where the shooting took place.

The woman’s family released a statement Friday night, identifying her as Kassi Moy and thanking the community for an outpouring of love, support and prayers.

“Kassi is a brilliant, kind, creative, active and selfless person who has so much life ahead of her. The impact of what happened to her will affect her physically and emotionally for the rest of her life,” the family wrote.

“We hope that one day soon Kassi will be able to thank you all from the top of a mountain with her dog, Orbit.”

Moy’s family set up a to raise money for her hospital care and rehabilitation.
