Two people were killed in crashes in Denver and Aurora late Friday night and early Saturday morning, police officials said.

The first fatal crash happened on northbound Interstate 25 in Denver on Friday night, when one person was killed in an eight-vehicle pileup near 44th Avenue.

The Denver Police Department responded to the crash at 8:29 p.m. and said one person died at the scene. No other serious injuries were reported.

Roberto Lamas-Ochoa, 25, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, Denver police said Saturday.

A second fatal crash happened at East Jewell Avenue and South Peoria Street in Aurora at 2 a.m. Saturday when a Chevrolet Tahoe driving eastbound on Jewell ran a red light while speeding.

The Tahoe driver, 41-year-old Cornelius Thomas of Aurora, hit a Chevrolet Cruze heading northbound on Peoria, the Aurora Police Department said.

The 28-year-old man driving the Cruze died at the scene.

Thomas and a female passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and Thomas was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and booked into the Aurora Detention Center.
