A 21-year-old Aurora man was killed in a crash between two pick-up trucks on Colorado 9 near Silverthorne, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers were called to the crash near mile 115 of Colorado 9, about 13 miles northwest of Silverthorne, at 8 a.m. Tuesday after a crash between a Dodge Dakota and Ford F350, the state patrol said in an update Wednesday.

Investigators found the Dodge driver was heading northbound when he lost control and began to spin into the southbound lane.

The southbound Ford hit the passenger side of the Dodge, sending both off the right side of the highway, state officials said.

The Dodge driver died at the scene. His name will be released by the Summit County Coroner’s Office. The Ford driver, a 32-year-old Silverthorne man, had moderate injuries.

Colorado 9 was closed until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday because of the crash.

The cause of the crash is undetermined and the investigation is ongoing, CSP officials said Wednesday.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken to investigators can contact state patrol dispatch at 970-249-4392 and reference case VC260009.
