Nothing was wrong with the brakes of a semitrailer that struck a car and a Littleton gas station in March, .
The 33-year-old driver told police his semitrailer’s brakes had failed while he was driving south on Santa Fe Drive about 1:30 p.m. March 10. After exiting onto Belleview Avenue, he crossed a median and crashed into a Jeep before the vehicles hit a Quik Trip gas station at 2338 W. Belleview Ave.
The driver of the Jeep was in serious condition at a hospital immediately after the crash, police said, but has gone home and appears on track for a full recovery. None of the 30 customers and employees inside the building were hurt, and the truck driver had minor injuries, police said in a news release.
Littleton police said the driver faces a charge of careless driving resulting in bodily injury, a misdemeanor, after they determined the semitrailer’s brakes were working at the time of the crash.
The Denver Post does not identify people who are charged with misdemeanors.
