After adding just one new recruit on national signing day last November, the 2026-27 freshman class for the Colorado men’s basketball team is continuing its spring expansion.
On Monday, the Buffaloes and head coach Tad Boyle announced the signing of Chase Hill, a 6-foot-7 forward from San Antonio, Texas. Hill is the grandson of former San Antonio Spurs head coach Bob Hill, who helped recruit Boyle out of Greeley 45 years ago when Hill was an assistant coach at Kansas.
Bob Hill also had NBA coaching stops at New York, Indiana and Seattle.
After as the only signing day addition in November, Boyle has added to the Buffs’ rookie class this spring by signing Hill and the Australian duo of forward Goc Malual and Alex Dickeson. CU also has received a commitment from Luke Mirhashemi, a class of 2026 guard out of Southern California.
Hill becomes the seventh spring addition for the Buffs overall, a list that includes the four freshmen plus frontcourt transfers Noah Feddersen (North Dakota State), Justin Neely (UNC Greensboro) and David Gomez (Charlotte).
Overall, Hill’s addition bumps the Buffs’ confirmed 2026-27 roster to 12 players, including returnees Barrington Hargress, Jalin Holland, Ian Inman and Josiah Sanders.
Boyle said Hill likely projects as a developmental player instead of a rotational player.
“I look at him as a developmental guy,” Boyle said in a press release. “He’s just looking for an opportunity, and we provided one here, so we’ll see where it goes, kind of on a year-to-year basis, but obviously, we’re like that with most of the players in today’s world. I don’t know how much he’ll play as a freshman, but he’s got great size and skill and great character from a great family, which fits a lot of the things we look for in players.
“I knew Chase before he could even walk. I wouldn’t say I’ve watched him grow up by any means, but I’ve certainly stayed in touch with coach (Bob) Hill. When we’re looking to fill roster spots, we’re looking for young men who may be a little bit overlooked, maybe a little bit under the radar. And Chase Hill is exactly that. He didn’t play a lot of AAU basketball, but he grew up in a gym. He’s a coach’s kid and the grandson of a coach, so basketball is in the family’s blood.”
