The flyovers serve as a tribute to people who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces and to show support for local communities. The flights are considered training for the pilots, according to a news release from the Coloraod Air National Guard.
“Our Memorial Day flyovers are a way to honor the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen service members,” said Col. Benjamin Couchman, 140th Wing commander, said in the news release. “These flyovers are a deeply personal way for us to connect with the communities we serve. We stand with our neighbors in reflection, honoring the high cost of freedom and ensuring those who gave everything are never forgotten.”
