A bear ran off into a better habitat Tuesday afternoon after Colorado Parks & Wildlife officials removed it from north Louisville and took it away from neighborhoods.

The male bear was likely hanging around Louisville’s North Open Space for a few weeks, according to Parks & Wildlife spokesperson Kara Van Hoose. Officials darted and relocated the bear because it wasn’t leaving the area, where it had climbed a tree, on its own, according to a .

Videos posted to X show the bear jumping out of the back of a Parks & Wildlife vehicle after officials opened the door, before it ran off into the wild.

Amid this summer’s drought, the post recommends that people keep trash away from bears because trash harms bears and makes bear-to-human conflicts more common.
