The Broncos announced Monday morning that they could not host fans for practice due to damage to the bleachers over the weekend.
Storms pulverized the southeast metro area with heavy rain and substantial hail, but it was the wind that caused issues at the Broncos’ facility. A wind gust picked up and slightly moved the temporary bleachers and the team was concerned about the structural integrity after that.
The bleachers, installed in a new spot for fans this season after the Broncos opened a new training quarters and headquarters this summer, provide mostly shaded seating for up to about 1,000 fans.
Fans are required to have a ticket to attend practices, but tickets are free. Tuesday and Wednesday are scheduled as the final two open camp practices of the summer, though it is unclear whether the damage to the bleachers will be repaired in time for Tuesday’s practice.
Last week, the Broncos closed Wednesday’s practice after originally planning for it to be open, because they had a walkthrough focused on game planning for Atlanta.
Denver originally had 14 open training camp practices scheduled and has held 10 so far.
Some metro areas received between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain on Saturday during severe storms. Hail also piled up in areas near the Broncos’ facility. Two Cherry Creek School District schools in Aurora are closed Monday due to flooding.
