Comments by Sonny Lubick over a decision to move the Colorado State-Air Force football game from Saturday, Oct. 1, to Thursday, Sept. 29, for an ESPN telecast have gotten the CSU coach in trouble with the Mountain West Conference.

The conference announced Tuesday it had given Lubick a public reprimand. Lubick could not be reached for comment.

Last week when the move was announced, Lubick was quoted in the Coloradoan newspaper in Fort Collins as saying: “If you follow college football, you know that this is unfair. It just doesn’t seem like this is right. I don’t think any other league would do this to two of its teams.”

Air Force plays the previous Thursday, but CSU’s prior game is on Saturday, giving the Rams just five days between games.

“Concerns and criticisms must be expressed through internal channels, not via the public or media,” MWC commissioner Craig Thompson told The Associated Press.

“Sonny is passionate about his program, and I support his passion,” CSU athletic director Mark Driscoll said.
