Durango – An undocumented immigrant wanted by Mexican authorities in the 2001 killing of a police officer was deported today, federal immigration officials said.
Jose Luis Ventura-Molina was arrested after Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials received a tip that he was living in the Alamosa area.
Ventura-Molina allegedly entered the United States in 2002. He was wanted in the slaying of Michoacan, Mexico, police officer Guillermo Menchaca-Escobar, Ventura-Molina’s son-in-law, immigration officials said.
Authorities in southern Colorado arrested Ventura-Molina late last year on unrelated misdemeanor charges, and he had been jailed since then.
Immigration authorities said Ventura-Molina had been arrested before in the United States and returned to Mexico under his alias, Manuel Avila, because U.S. authorities had not been told about a Mexican murder warrant for him.
