Getting your player ready...

When the Colorado Rockies wrap up their series today against the Cincinnati Reds at Coors Field, the state’s top teenagers will make a final appearance representing their high schools.

The Rockies will present the latest version of their High School Senior All-Star Baseball Game after the completion of the major-league game. First pitch against the Reds is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., and the prep game should begin approximately 20 minutes after the National League game.

A panel of scouts and media, including The Denver Post, selected 40 players to compete in a seven-inning prep game with a two-hour limit.

Billed as a showcase of in-state talent, it also will serve as a final look before the major-league amateur draft, which is Tuesday and Wednesday.

Players will be split into two equal squads. The coaches will be from Colorado’s four classification winners last month: Kyle Rush, Grand Junction, Class 5A; Bob Bote, Niwot, 4A; John Gechter, Bishop Machebeuf, 3A; and Carl Lindauer, Las Animas, 2A.
