Boxing rule change proposed
The Colorado State Boxing Commission recommended a change in its rules that would require specific licenses to work in the sport of boxing. If adopted by the state government, individuals would need licenses to be a contestant, an official, a promoter and a match second. In the past a holder of a license for one function could cross over to another without needing an additional license.
Matt Azer, program director for the boxing commission, said the new policy could be operational by Sept. 1.
UNC DB preseason pick
University of Northern Colorado senior defensive back Reed Doughty has been named to The Sports Network’s 2005 Division I-AA Preseason All-America football team.
Doughty was previously named to Lindy’s and Street & Smith’s preseason All-America teams. The Johnstown native carries a 4.0 grade-point average and will be a four-year starter at free safety.
Doughty ranks seventh on the Bears’ all-time tackles list going into the 2005 season with 307. He needs 93 tackles to move into No. 2 on list. His 10 interceptions is tied for 10th on the Bears’ career list.
Doughty is one of only eight UNC football players to earn academic All-America honors in the program’s history.
