A Longmont man remained in critical condition Thursday following a bizarre series of events early Wednesday morning.
Nathen Weathers, 19, crashed his motorcycle near County Roads 5 and 26 early Wednesday, severely injuring himself.
No other vehicles were involved, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s office.
Sometime later, around 4 a.m., a homeowner in the Meadow-Vale subdivision, about 1 1/2 miles from the scene of the accident, confronted Weathers trying to crawl into the man’s home through a back window. The man fired a 9mm pistol three times at Weathers, hitting him once in the elbow, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Weathers was transported to Longmont United Hospital for treatment, where authorities described him as “extremely drunk.”
Following an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said it will recommend to the Weld County District Attorney that Weathers be charged with trespassing, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence. The DA’s office will make the final decision on charging.
The homeowner, a neighbor of Weathers, has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
