Marina Village brings Vongerichten and Starbucks together in Caribbean resort

Atlantis, Paradise Island, had been upping the ante on class to begin with, and now the addition next door to the 65,000-square-foot marketplace Marina Village gives the area a destination royal flush. The ace in the hole is Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Café Martinique, his French- fare interpretation of the restaurant originally made famous with its appearance in the 1965 James Bond film “Thunderball.” Add the casual Bahamian eatery Bimini Road and a host of higher-end specialty shops such as Versace JC and Dooney & Bourke, and we’re talking top-shelf. That Starbucks managed to wangle its way in here is true testament to that company’s drawing power, but Johnny Rockets? Marina Village at Atlantis, Paradise Island, 954-809-2000, Atlantis.com

Comprising 113 works selected from private and public collections worldwide, “Vincent van Gogh: The Drawings” opens Oct. 18 and runs through Dec. 31 in the Metropolitan Museum’s special exhibition galleries on the second floor. A joint venture between the Metropolitan and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the exhibition covers a decade of the artist’s lesser-known work as a draftsman, including an early series of large-scale views of the garden at his father’s vicarage from March 1884. Pulitzer Foundation’s “Minimalism” exhibit is sure to prove less is more interesting

There are great art museums and great art exhibits, but rarely do the two intersect as perfectly as they will in St. Louis when the still- new Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts hosts “Minimalism and Beyond” from Oct. 14- April 26. One of the best small museums in the country, the foundation is a serenely minimal, concrete box designed by Tadao Ando. Where better to show off the simplicity of Barnett Newman, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin and others? It’s almost as if this art has been waiting around for the proper showcase. The foundation has picky hours, so do check the website. Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, 3716 Washington Blvd., 314-754-1850, pulitzerarts.org
