Getting your player ready...
Aaron Cook (6-2, 3.75 ERA) remains a candidate for a multiyear contract after evolving into a staff ace. Most remarkable about Cook’s sinker is that teams hit it, but not hard. In 74 1/3 innings, he has struck out just 23 batters. And until his last sluggish start, at Atlanta, the right-hander had won six consecutive decisions. Those who have worked with Cook believe he will learn to get more strikeouts as he grows more confident in his changeup and slider. Victor Zambrano (7-11, 3.98), traded for super prospect Scott Kazmir, slipped back into the rotation in place of Pedro Martinez, who was shut down early as a precaution.
