A winter storm continued to pound Colorado’s Rocky Mountains with powder Saturday, leaving skiers and snowboarders giddy.

Crested Butte reported 15 inches from Friday afternoon to Saturday; Vail reported 15; and Monarch, in Colorado’s southern mountains, had 18 inches, according to Colorado Ski Country USA, a ski-industry group.

Aspen Skiing Co. said the Aspen and Snowmass area received 25 inches in a 24-hour period.

That’s on top of record or near-record snowfalls reported at some resorts in November, including a record 83 inches in Steamboat, up from the previous high of 78 inches in 1996.

Between 2 and 3 inches of snow fell in Denver beginning late Friday night, for the area’s first taste of the week’s storm. The Colorado Springs area had reports of 5 to 8 inches and Pueblo had about 3 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Roads were icy in some parts of the metro area Saturday morning.

The Colorado State Patrol reported slowing and some minor crashes, but none with fatalities. Lisa Lane, a traffic management specialist for the state Department of Transportation, said road conditions were improving by Saturday afternoon.

National Weather Service meteorologist Carl Burroughs said snowfall should continue in most areas before tapering off Monday.
