Still tweaking.

KDVR-Channel 31 relaunched “Good Day Colorado” in July with ex-radio guy Steve Kelley as main host.

Six months later, “GDC” is still a work in progress. Station management added longtime news anchor Shaul Turner to the mix and – surprise, surprise – she’s caught on with viewers.

“We wanted to see how she would do paired with Steve,” said news director Bill Dallman. So far, he says cautiously, “We’re assessing it.”

The audience seems to have already made up its mind. “We were up in November in terms of ratings,” says Dallman.

Turner’s absence on the 9 o’clock news is being filled in a rotation made up of Kim Posey, Heidi Hemmat, Whei Wong and Tammy Vigil.

News to Channel 20?

KTVD-Channel 20 may get its own news operation as part of its pending purchase by Gannett Co., which also operates the town’s No. 1 newscasts at KUSA-Channel 9.

“We’ll look and see if doing newscasts makes sense,” said Roger Ogden, president and chief executive of Gannett Broadcasting.

An agreement for Gannett to purchase the UPN outlet in Denver was announced Friday. If approved, it would create the market’s first “duopoly,” with one company owning two TV stations.

“There are efficiencies in terms of operating,” says Ogden. “The cost of news gathering can be spread over two stations.” If it comes to pass, odds are Channel 20’s news would air at 5 and 9 p.m.
