Emergency Medical Services Corp. announced Wednesday the closing of its initial public offering of 8.1 million shares of common stock at an offering price of $14 per share. The company received $105.5 million in net proceeds before transaction costs. The company’s stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Dec. 16 under the ticker symbol “EMS.”

Lafarge West Inc. selected Families First as the recipient of its 2006 Building Blocks of Our Community grant. The annual grant is a contribution of up to $30,000 of asphalt, concrete or aggregate. Families First will use the grant for a parking lot at its new facility near East Iliff Avenue and South Parker Road in Arapahoe County.

Hythane Co. of Denver will begin demonstrating its low- emission vehicle fuel system in China. The company has signed memos of understanding with five major cities to test and convert as many as 10,000 diesel buses to Hythane fuel, a blend of natural gas and hydrogen that reduces emissions by up to 50 percent compared with traditional natural gas. The project targets full conversion before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Rentech Inc. announced Wednesday that the Patent and Trademark Office has issued Rentech’s 20th patent related to its Fischer-Tropsch coal-to-liquids and gas-to-liquids technology processes.

OfficeMax opened a new distribution center last week in Denver. The 120,000- square-foot center at 4690 Geneva St. is nearly three times larger than the old center in Aurora.

Taco John’s and Good Times have opened a co-branded restaurant in Fort Collins at the corner of South Timberline and East Prospect roads.
