Police shot and killed a woman suspected of robbing a Loveland bank this afternoon after witnesses say she pointed a toy gun at pursuing deputies.

A witness to the robbery tailed the unidentified woman and helped lead authorities on a pursuit that lasted almost 30 minutes and ended north of Longmont.

The suspect handed a teller at Chase Bank, 1905 W. Eisenhower Blvd., in Loveland, a note and informed the teller that she had a gun before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, Loveland police Sgt. Rae Bontz said.

“She didn’t show a weapon while she was in the bank,” Bontz said. “As far as we know, she was alone.”

Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies located the woman driving a white mini-van and pursued her across the county line where Boulder County deputies were able to respond and assist in stopping the vehicle, authorities said.

The woman was shot to death in the 15000 block of North 83rd Street, which is west of Highway 287.

It had not been disclosed who fired the shots.

No officers were injured in the pursuit, Larimer County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Eloise B. Campanella said.

Investigators from Boulder County were called to the scene to review the shooting.
