Federal authorities have arrested two men they believe are the “military-style bank robbers,” a pair of thieves who ordered customers to the floor and brandished automatic weapons as they robbed several Colorado banks.

Patrick Salvador, 24, and Zachary Small Canyon, 37, of Colorado Springs surrendered to FBI agents Wednesday in Kansas, according to the Colorado U.S. attorney’s office.

The commando-style robbers, whom authorities have called chillingly different in the way they aggressively control people at a robbery scene, contributed to a reported surge in Colorado bank robberies in 2005.

According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Denver, Salvador and Canyon are each charged with the robbery of a US Bank branch in Littleton this week.

The FBI said that the way the Littleton bank was robbed matches the method used in a series of bank robberies committed by two men over the past 18 months.
