Steamboat Springs skier Caroline Lalive is expected to miss the Olympics because of a knee injury suffered during a training run in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
Lalive, 26, was named to her third Olympic team Wednesday but was injured earlier that day when she landed on the tails of her skis off a jump and skied off the course.
She did not fall, but on the impact from the landing she suffered an apparent fractured left kneecap and will require surgery.
Lalive was scheduled to fly home today and will undergo further evaluation at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail.
Lalive had three top-30 World Cup results this season, including a second-place finish in downhill at Val d’Isere, France, on Dec. 17. It was the fifth podium of her 10-year career.
