Input sought on Arapahoe Road

The first public meeting to discuss revamping East Arapahoe Road from South Parker Road west to Interstate 25 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Arapahoe Library District Support Services Building, 12855 E. Adam Aircraft Circle.

Planners are studying the corridor to determine long-term solutions for improving mobility, accessibility and safety along the roadway.

Seats open on W. Metro Fire panel

Five seats on the West Metro Fire Protection District board will be up for election May 2. The nomination period for candidates runs through Feb. 24.

The open seats are in District 1, north Lakewood; District 2, central Lakewood; District 3, west Lakewood and Green Mountain; District 4, south- central Lakewood; and District 5, south Lakewood and parts of unincorporated Jefferson County.

Seats in Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5 are for four-year terms and are open because of term limits. The District 4 seat, with a two-year term, is held by Mark Messenbaugh, who was appointed as an interim replacement to Sue King after she resigned to serve on the Lakewood City Council.

AURORA

Police Academy recruits citizens

Residents wanting to learn more about the Aurora Police Department are asked to participate in the upcoming Citizens Police Academy.

Police officers and law enforcement officials will provide attendees with an overview of department operations, from crime scene investigations to community policing strategies.

The 14-week program takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays through May 3. A similar 10-week class for seniors takes place 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays from March 6 to May 8.

AURORA

Tax help available to seniors

Seniors seeking assistance with their taxes may find the help they need at a one-day session at Moorhead Recreation Center, 2390 Havana St., from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring the following items to the session: W-2 forms, 2005 tax paperwork, Social Security cards and any other tax paperwork for this year.
