The Denver Post today adds a new traffic feature to its website that’s highly personalized, sends you text messages and cellphone calls about road conditions when you’re driving, and lets you set guidelines for when you want to get information.
Bulletins can reach you via the Web, by phone and through a personal digital assistant.
Here’s how it works:
You sign up online with your specific driving routes.
You can then check on traffic conditions on those routes from your computer.
Or, you can sign up for e-mails and text messages. Or use the phone: Call from a land line or while you’re on the road, or sign up for the system to call you at specified times and days.
You’ll be given information about delays, speeds, accidents and estimated travel times.
There is no charge.
The tool also has a “Jam Factor,” which allows each user to specify his or her own threshold for getting the information.
If you want to be alerted only when traffic on your route becomes seriously congested, you can set the Jam Factor accordingly.
To check it out or to sign up, go to denverpost.com and click the traffic link in the upper right corner. Or, go directly to denverpost.com/traffic.
