Council hopefuls debate Monday

A candidates forum will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday for Golden’s Ward 2 City Council special election April 25.

Leadership Golden Alumni Association is hosting the forum at Shelton Elementary School, 420 Crawford St.

Candidates to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Arthur Chen, whose job was relocated to California, are Joe Behm, Brian Bookmyer and Karla Conner.

Classes to offer tips on horse care

A series of “horse sense” seminars will be held in April and May to provide information on equine dental care, veterinary care, trailer maneuvering, grooming and trail riding.

The seminars are sponsored by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office animal control section, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Service and Jefferson County Horse Council.

The classes are from 7 to 9 p.m. at the CSU Extension meeting room at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. Sixth Ave., in Golden. Each class costs $15 for the general public, $10 for horse council members and 4-H parents, and free for people younger than 18.

The schedule includes: next Thursday, dental care; April 20, information about tack; April 27, grooming and horse care; May 4, horse shows and judging; May 11, trail riding; May 18, packing and backcountry travel; and May 25, how to drive and back a trailer.
