Richard Devin, producing artistic director of Boulder’s Colorado Shakespeare Festival since 1980, has announced he will retire after the 2006 his season, his 17th and the company’s 49th.


Devin, 62, cited the constant need to raise additional funding and his desire to freelance lighting designer at theaters around the country. Under his tenure, he grew the organization by 25 percent, into a $1 million annual festival.


Devin’s final season begins July with “The Tempest” and will also include “As You Like It,” “The Merchant of Venice” and “Unexpected Shaxpere!”

A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
