A Northglenn city councilman accused of harassing and stalking his former girlfriend was expected to plead guilty Monday to a harassment charge but was stopped by an Adams County judge when the victim contested the plea because it did not include domestic-violence charges.

Councilman Jim Miller is a former Northglenn police officer. His ex-girlfriend, April Sanchez, accused Miller of egging the car of a co-worker parked at her house on Jan. 24 because he believed she was seeing the co-worker.

Both Sanchez and the co-worker are police officers in Broomfield.

Miller, 39, has admitted that he egged the man’s car, authorities said.

The councilman also was accused of following Sanchez and flooding her phone with text messages.

Miller returns to court June 5 to decide whether he will take the plea agreement to include the domestic-violence charge or go to trial.

If Miller is sentenced for domestic violence, he would be required to attend anger-management classes and counseling. A protection order also would be in place for the victim.

Miller was sworn in as a councilman in early January.
