Breckenridge – A local fire department’s ballot measure for a property-tax increase ended in a tie Tuesday.
After the 127-127 vote, election officials Wednesday were forced to consider the provisional ballots cast by voters who didn’t appear on the official voter rolls in an effort to determine if they were eligible to vote.
There was one.
It was valid.
It was cast in favor of the tax increase.
“It’s funny now, but it wasn’t for the 15 hours we were waiting,” said Capt. Kim Scott, spokeswoman for the Red, White and Blue Fire Department.
Chief Gary Green vowed to listen to those who expressed hesitation or concern over the proposal, which raises property taxes in Breckenridge by about $15 for every $100,000 of home value to help fund the department.
