
Kirk MacDonald, the chief executive of the Denver Newspaper Agency since its launch in 2001, announced Wednesday that he will step down at month’s end.
He will be replaced by Harry Whipple, the outgoing chief executive at the Newspaper Agency Corp., the Salt Lake City-based company that handles the business operations for the Desert Morning News and The Salt Lake Tribune.
MacDonald will leave to form a new company, Interactive Marketing and Innovation, to be headquartered in Denver. It will have offices in London and Krakow, Poland.
The marketing and communications consultancy will caters to the sports, entertainment and media industries. Its first client will be Denver-based ap Inc., one of the nation’s largest newspaper chains and owner of The Post.
The Denver agency handles the business operations for both The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, which is owned by Cincinnati-based E.W. Scripps Co.
Whipple has led joint-operating agreements in Cincinnati and Tucson. The Salt Lake Tribune is owned by the ap.
