Slim 7 snuck into town Tuesday night – and it wants to be our worst- kept secret.
It’s a new nightclub for Denver’s large livers located in the alley between Market and Larimer streets and 14th and 15th streets. There is no signage, just a door that opens unto a stairway that leads you down to the club.
It’s the brainchild of man-about- town Bill Ward, the general partner who gathered 18 other high-profilers to get things pouring.
“It’s a New York/European style club,” says Ward. “The lighting is unbelievable, exposed stone, a really cool, sleek, clean space.”
As for the silent partners, think KC Veio, Brent Kline and the gang – high profile, well-connected Denver men.
“They’re well-known in big circles,” says Ward. “They’ll bring the people in.” And they get keys to the secret VIP elevator on Larimer Street.
At first, says Ward, people may not believe that the speakeasylike club is actually there. “People will say, ‘Are you sure this is the right place?’ and you’ll say, ‘Trust me.”‘
Slim 7 is open every night 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Never a cover, sometimes a rope.
Women rule
Women are in the kitchen – and saving the world.
Women Cook is a benefit for Work Options for Women 6-9 Monday night at Temple Emanuel. It’s a walk-around dinner with food from our bestest female fryers: Kim Adams, Jane Berryman, Jennifer Jasinski, Pat Perry, Susan Ralston, Wendy Vlach, Rebecca Weitzman, Elise Wiggins and Rachel Woolcott. Go to blacktie-colorado.com/rsvp (event code: womencook) for the $95 tix.
And on Sept. 17, six female Nobel Peace Prize laureates will talk the talk at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Mayor Hick’s wife Helen Thorpe, Denver COO Katherine Archuleta and Ambassador Swanee Hunt head up the gathering. Prize winners are Rigoberta Menchu Tum, Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Jody Williams, Betty Williams, Shirin Ebadi and Wangari Maathai. Just typing their names makes me feel peaceful.
