Stay home. Get away.
Doug Whitehead, producer of “Colorado Getaways” who has logged thousands of miles around our fair state in search of unusual stories, does an odd thing this week – he tours Denver (6:30 p.m. Saturday, KCNC-Channel 4).
Whitehead and his crew see Denver by light rail with stops at the Buckhorn Exchange, Elitch’s and the Black American West Museum. There is also a sneak peek inside the yet-to-open Frederick C. Hamilton wing of the Denver Art Museum (that pointy thing looming over 13th Avenue) and a boat ride on the Platte.
“It’s the idea that you don’t have to drive your car to see the sights,” said Whitehead, who has been doing “Getaways” for 14 of its 20 years, most of them in faraway places.
“We’re getting away to Denver.”
