Barbara Ferries Henderson fell in love with Colorado in 1960 when she left her native Michigan to spend her junior year of high school in Aspen pursuing ski racing. That move put her on a path that will take her to the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame this fall.
“I came out and saw the Rocky Mountains and I just never left,” said Ferries Henderson, who lives in Nederland.
Ferries Henderson won a bronze medal in downhill at the 1962 world championships and competed in the 1964 Olympics. Her brother, Chuck Ferries, raced in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics.
The induction ceremony will be Oct. 14 at the Marriott City Center. Other inductees announced Monday will include:
* Mark Tache of Aspen, a member of the U.S. Ski Team from 1978-85 who spent seven more seasons racing on the old U.S. Pro Tour.
* Jim Temple, the prime mover behind the development of the Steamboat Ski Area.
* Ray Duncan, who created Purgatory ski area (now known as Durango Mountain Resort).
* Henry Christian Hall, the first ski jumper to break the 200-foot barrier on Steamboat’s Howelsen Hill in 1917.
