The childhood home of “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen, 53, is on the market for just over $1 million.
The 2,509-square-foot house at 359 Marion St. in Denver’s Country Club neighborhood is owned by Dianne and David Marquardt, who are relocating to Seattle to be near their grown children.
“David was a lighting designer, so you’ve got wonderful lighting throughout the house, especially in the garden,” said Ann Atkinson, a broker with Leonard Leonard & Associates who is listing the house. The yard, she said, is like a botanic garden.
A Denver native, the actor was born Tim Allen Dick. His parents, Gerald and Martha Dick, bought the house in 1955, according to Denver real- estate records. Gerald Dick died in the mid-1960s, and Martha Dick sold the home in 1967 to J.D. McAllister. Two years later, McAllister sold it to Bruce and Jaren Ducker.
After Allen’s father died in an auto accident when Allen was 11, “Tim’s mother (married) her high school sweetheart, and she moved her six kids to join his three in Birmingham, Mich.,” according to Tim Allen’s website, www.timallen.com.
A call to Allen’s publicist, Marleah Leslie in Beverly Hills, Calif., was not returned. Allen starred in the film “The Shaggy Dog” this year.
About 10 years ago, the Marquardts built an addition to the four-bedroom, three-bath Denver Square-style home built in 1910.
Atkinson decided to have some fun with the listing after taking an online real-estate class that said building curiosity is a good marketing tool.
She’s holding open houses at four Denver properties from noon to 2 p.m. today. Visitors can drop a business card at each home to be entered into a raffle to win a Tim Allen DVD.
