A temporary Aurora city worker has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy at a free children’s event, sponsored by the city.

Jermaine Lamont Vaden, 29, volunteered to work at Aurora’s annual “Kids Spree” event on July 16th.

There, police say, he met the victim, enticed him to meet again the next day at a home on the 400 block of S. Troy St., and sexually assaulted him.

The victim reported the incident early in the morning on Tuesday, July 18th.

Vaden was initially jailed for failing to register as a sex offender, but has since been charged with sex assault.

Vaden was hired as a temporary maintenance worker by Aurora in May. No criminal background was conducted. The city had implemented background checks on all new hires who work with children back in 2002, which did not apply to Vaden.

Since the alleged sex assault came to light, the city revised its policy to include all new full-time and temporary city workers.

Vaden is scheduled to appear in Arapahoe County court for the filing of charges on July 31.
