Getting your player ready...

College football. That’s all you need to know about sports on TV this weekend. It’s college ball morning, noon and night.

From Boston College-Central Michigan to Florida State-Miami, there are 23 rah-rah games on TV between tonight and Monday. Yes, Monday. College ball has ballooned to five days in its opening weekend.

In addition to the FSU-Miami game at 6 p.m. Monday on ESPN – sure to be a war – check out these games: California at Tennessee (3:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN); Notre Dame at Georgia Tech, 6 p.m. Saturday, KMGH-

Channel 7), and USC at Arkansas (6:45 p.m. Saturday, ESPN).

Neither Colorado’s game against Montana State nor Colorado State’s encounter with Weber State was deemed TV worthy, but both are on the radio: CU on KOA 850-AM at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and CSU on KLZ 560-AM at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Gotta-have-it Buffs fans can see the game by signing on to cubuffs.com, which will be streaming the scoreboard video with voiceover from KOA.

Tennis, someone?

If football doesn’t tickle your sports funny bone, how about tennis?

KCNC-Channel 4 covers the men’s and women’s third rounds of the U.S. Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (that’s seven hours for those scoring at home). And if that isn’t enough, USA picks up the coverage at 5 p.m. for another four hours.

Take a pass

The Broncos are the reigning kings of football in these parts.

But tonight’s preseason meeting with the Phoenix Cardinals is eminently skipable because most of the starters aren’t expected to set foot on the field. They’re resting. You should too. Go to bed instead of staying up to watch. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. on Channel 4, the league leader in Broncos-related program.

More Broncos: Scott Hastings continues to prove his worth to Altitude, hosting (with his constant companion Alfred Williams) “Altitude Sports Summit: Pro Football,” debuting at 5:30 and 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Around the dial

“Eye of the Storm,” a documentary about the Louisiana State football team and how it overcame the disruption of life caused by Hurricane Katrina, is a lesson in perseverance (7 p.m. Sunday, FSN Rocky Mountain) … The ever-hopeful coach Sonny Lubick returns to KUSA-Channel 9 with his show on Colorado State football, with Susie Wargin asking the questions (11:15 p.m. Sunday) … Sixteen of college volleyball’s best women players, including Allie Griffin of CU, butt heads in “Go Pro or Go Home,” a three-part reality series (6 p.m. Sunday, CSTV, Comcast digital cable channel 412) … Thanks to several readers who pointed out that it’s ABC that dropped pro-football coverage. CBS is in the game, will carry the Super Bowl … Quotable: “What about football? Is it a sport or a concussion?” Jim Murray
