Eric M. Goral of Heritage High School in Littleton was nominated to the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs by Vice President Dick Cheney for his “outstanding scholastic record and personal achievements.”

The official appointment to the academy’s class of 2010 was conveyed to Goral by Air Force Col. Amy McCarthy in May.

A 2006 high honors graduate with a 3.9 grade-point average, Eric was a member of the National Honor Society during his junior and senior years. He was also a member of the National French Honor Society and tutored sophomores in French.

As a senior, Eric was captain of the Heritage wrestling team and qualified for the state championship at Denver.

Eric’s volunteerism includes serving as a steward at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Sunday school and involvement in the study buddy program for Runyon Elementary first-graders, the night nursery at The Next Level Church at Denver First Church of the Nazarene and the children’s teacher program at Greenwood Community Church.

Each week, The Denver Post honors an outstanding youth for his or her accomplishments.
