Children will soon be able to build rockets, design earthquake-proof buildings and operate a crane, at least on a small scale, when a new exhibit opens at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

The interactive Engineer It exhibit debuts Sept. 29 and runs until the first of next year.

“I hope people learn to pay attention to their natural curiosity about how things work,” senior exhibit developer Frances Kruger said.

The exhibit features four main areas: the water area, the wind area, the buildings and bridges area, and the RocketWorks lab.

Exhibit curator Dimitri Klebe said earthquake-proof buildings are the next wave in engineering. Visitors can try their hand at it with scaled-down building materials and a moving platform that simulates an earthquake.

Visitors can also learn how to make 20 kinds of paper airplanes and test them.
