The gunman who held six girls hostage at Platte Canyon High School had no drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of the attack, officials say.

Duane Morrison, 53, who received four gunshot wounds, also had no sign of anti-psychotic medication in his body, said Lance Clem, spokesman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The autopsy of 16-year-old Emily Keyes confirmed that she was killed by one gunshot to the head, Clem said.

Clem said Morrison was shot twice in the head and twice elsewhere in the upper body.

Officials have said Morrison shot Keyes in the head and then fired a bullet into his own head.

Authorities were awaiting more information to determine whether Morrison died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound or from shots fired by SWAT officers, Clem said.

At the direction of the Jefferson County District Attorney s office, the autopsy reports for Morrison and Keyes will not be released to the public, Clem said.

Morrison took six female students hostage, sexually assaulted some of them, and released four girls before he killed Keyes following a four-hour standoff Sept. 27.

Clem also said school surveillance tapes showed Morrison’s yellow Jeep in the parking lot of the school near Bailey, about 40 miles southwest of Denver, the day before as well as the day of the shooting.

Students and parents were allowed to return to the school today for the first time to pick up belongings left behind when the building was evacuated last week. Classes were to resume Thursday.
