Commerce City police are looking for two men and a woman in what appears to be a well-organized invasion and robbery of a man’s home.
Last August, an unidentified 46-year-old Commerce City man opened his front door to a woman who asked for help fixing a flat tire. He agreed and walked out of his house, leaving the garage door open. The car with the flat tire had stopped around the corner on a side street, out of view of the house, police said.
Within minutes, a maroon car, possibly a Ford Taurus, drove into the garage. Two men exited the car and entered the house, where they tied up the man’s 84-year-old mother.
After changing the flat tire, the car owner and the homeowner walked back to the house, where they were assaulted by the two men. The homeowner was tied up; the woman was told to leave and not call police because they had her license plate number.
The two bandits, dressed in black and wearing gloves, then ransacked the home, stealing a computer, a small amount of cash and other items, police said. They drove away without leaving a clue.
“We’ve been at this for a long time,” said Commerce City Police detective Mike Saunders. “Nothing but dead-ends. The two men were so well disguised we can’t even distinguish their race.
“We’re treating the woman with the flat tire as a victim. We need to talk to her.”
Saunders described the woman as early to mid 20s, about 5’4″ tall and thin. The two men are about 6′ tall with slim builds.
Anyone with information is asked to call Commerce City police at (303) 227-8840.
