Travelers through Denver International Airport are generally happy with airport facilities like restrooms and flight displays, but gave lower scores for concessions, including the selection of shops and availability of healthy choices.

DIA’s overall score put it close to the scores of the best large airports, according to Airport Interviewing and Research Inc., which conducted the survey in July for DIA. More than 600 people were surveyed at DIA on issues like the check-in process, security check points, terminal facilities, the in-terminal train, food and beverage, retail services and gate areas.

Of Denver-area residents, ninety-five percent of people surveyed said they were “proud” of DIA and its reflection on where they live.

The results released today by DIA also showed travelers chose Starbucks as one of the food and beverage shops they would be most likely to shop at and a Tattered Cover bookstore as one of the retail stores they would be most likely to shop at. The first Starbucks at DIA is scheduled to open next April on Concourse B. There is no Tattered Cover at the airport.

Travelers gave the lowest scores in the concessions area to the selection and variety of shops, variety of merchandise and menu items, high quality food and beverage and healthy choices. They gave higher scores for convenience of locations, fast service, courteous and polite staff, staff appearance and organized stores.

“There is certainly some positive news here, but we see room for improvement as well,” said DIA manager Turner West in a written statement. “This gives us a great tool to move forward with some exciting new concepts.” The survey will be repeated quarterly.
