Mmmmmmmm, celebrity pie.
I don’t want to brag, but I brought a real, homemade apple creation to the Autism Society of Colorado’s first pie auction.
Others, and I’m not naming names beyond KUSA-Channel 9 anchor Bob Kendrick, who stopped by Village Inn, brought store-bought.
Kendrick’s back for this year’s fundraiser, emceeing with Brenda Ryan from KOA 850-AM, but he’s not bringing a “fake” pie. Instead, he’s doing an old Saskatchewan family recipe, the Gull Lake Special. It’s been clogging arteries in the Kendrick family for decades.
Organizers estimate there will be as many as 300 pies at Tuesday’s auction. It will feature pies from multiple media types, including Nick Carter, Bazi Kanani and Gary Shapiro from Channel 9; Lionel Bienvenu from KMGH-Channel 7; Aaron Harber from KBDI-Channel 12; Greg Nieto from KWGN-Channel 2; and Tim McLaughlin from KXKL 105.1-FM.
The auction starts at 5:30 p.m. at Highlands Masonic Temple, 3550 Federal Blvd. Info at 720-214-0794.
Remembering Martin
My mention Monday of late Broncos play-by-play man Bob Martin rang a bell with Del Carnes, who held this job with The Post years ago.
“Whether it was covering the Broncos, the forerunners of the Nuggets or DU hockey, Bob was the consummate pro. His work was network caliber, in stark contrast to the current caliber of folks doing broadcast sports.”
