Air Force freshman goaltender Andrew Volkening stopped 19 shots to earn a shutout and the Falcons hockey team downed American International 3-0 on Sunday in an Atlantic Hockey Association game at Cadet Ice Arena.

Air Force (7-6-1, 5-2-1), which defeated AIC 6-1 on Friday, earned a series sweep and is above .500 for the first time this season.

Andrew Ramsey scored the winner at the 17:35 mark of the first period, on assists from Eric Ehn and Michael Mayra.

Ehn is the NCAA leader in points with 28 and goals (14) in 14 games. He had five points (one goal, four assists) in the series.

The Falcons travel to Denver to play the 11th-ranked Pioneers on Friday at Magness Arena.

CSU volleyball starts MWC tourney vs. TCU

The Colorado State volleyball team will open the Mountain West Conference Tournament with an 11 a.m. quarterfinal match against Texas Christian on Thursday at Cox Pavilion on the campus of Nevada-Las Vegas.

The No. 3-seeded Rams (17-9, 11-5) lost their season finale Saturday to Utah, ranked ninth in the nation and the No. 1 MWC seed, 30-28, 28-30, 30-21, 32-30.

CSU’s game against sixth-seeded TCU (17-14, 5-11) will be televised on The Mtn.

Also, No. 5 Wyoming (13-14, 7-9) will take No. 4 UNLV (19-9, 10-6) at 4 p.m.
